My first Dog

After reading Harpers I fell in love with it. I didn’t find it terribly difficult to read and it was interesting. I really enjoyed the Harpers Index. This is a page filled with little facts and one of the facts that caught my eye was, “Number of states where the obesity rate declined last year: 0″
Obesity is a serious issue in our world today and I felt I needed to make work about it. My idea is to show how convinent fast.
Rough:

I find it ridiculous that there was a need for Mcdonalds to be open 24 hours. I also believe that obesity is caused by a mixture of things, two of those being unhealthy food and late night eating/snacking.
This is a good jumping off idea and even now I’m thinking of different ideas on how to show the obesity problem. Like, how do I show how many people visit Mcdonalds in one day? I could some how get the number of people that have visited a Mcdonalds and photograph that number in french fries or hamburgers.
I wanted to show how I feel in certain pieces of clothing.
I haven’t allowed the viewer to see all of my face in these photos because the clothes act like a sort of mask. In these clothes I feel like a different person. A confident person.

I left my face in these photos because the clothes that I’m wearing make me feel very exposed.

I believe that the shadow in the background is a bit distracting. Plus the lighting is different from the rest.
For my last day of paying attention I decided to photograph the food I ate. This is a visual documentation of what I ate on November 14, 2009. I really liked this idea and maybe I’ll continue it.
I’m not sure what I think about the different backgrounds.

I’m also wasn’t sure about drinks…..

I eat a lot.
The forth day I decided to photograph rectangles. Everyday I notice all the rectangles in my classrooms so I took this opportunity to collect them. This was harder than I thought it was going to be. I got in trouble a couple of times for not paying attention in class because I was focused on all the rectangles in the room.

For me, the compositions in these images fall flat.
The third day I decided to photograph bathroom sink areas. This subject was fun but a lot of women looked at me like I was a predator.
Kenny’s bathroom series influenced this project.
Successes:

Failures:

I like this image but I don’t think I was paying attention to the sink area as much as I was to the entire bathroom.

Some of the bathrooms I entered were difficult to photograph and that made the compositions awkward.
The second day of this project I decided to photograph all of the stairs that I climbed. I couldn’t walk up the stairs until I photographed them. I had the most fun with this subject. So much so that later I decided to photograph all the stairs that I went down.

Posting these make me cringe. The composition of these are lame. Bleh.
The first day I decided to pay attention to my boyfriend. I found this to be very difficult which makes me laugh.
I photographed him from the minute I woke up. He decided that half way through the day he didn’t want to be photographed anymore and started to rebel. So needless to say I have about 100 photos of him flicking off the camera.
Here are three of my most successful images:

Here are some of my failures:

All of these are awkward compositions.

With this project I wanted to photograph landscapes in an interesting way. I did this by photographing at twilight.
Failed Image:

I don’t feel this image is interesting at all. I like the lighting but there is nothing here to look at.
For some reason I feel like I can never capture a great image at night. Whenever I do photograph at night outside I’m rarely pleased with the outcome.
Ever since I’ve moved into my apartment I’ve been wanting to photograph it. Certain areas around my buildingat night always catch my eye.
So since tonight is a full moon I decided to take advantage of the beautiful light and try and solve my problem.
Mission: Create beautiful images at night outside.

I really liked these two satellites but I just couldn’t photograph them successfully. I really wish I could have gotten a good shot of these. I went back to photograph them but creepy enough they are gone.
